PAXINOS — Robert Frederick Jones, 73, of 826 West Center St., passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon, March 12, 2014, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1940, in Shamokin, a son of the late Robert B. and Ann Louise (Simmet) Jones. On June 15, 1968, in St. Stan’s Church, Shamokin, he married the former Linda Kaskie, who survives.

Robert was a 1958 graduate of Shamokin High School, a 1962 graduate of Bloomsburg University and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He was president of Jones Hardware and Home Centers in Shamokin and Herndon. He was a teacher at Shamokin High School from 1964 through 1970 and served as a Northumberland County commissioner.

Robert was a director and former chairman of Northern Central Bank, a director of the Shamokin Area Industrial Corp., chairman of the Shamokin Revitalization Committee, a director of the Eastern Hardware Association and a member of the Elks, Kiwanis, Elysburg Fire Company, National Taxpayers Association and Citizens Against Government Waste.

Robert loved riding horses, spending time with his grandchildren, and he enjoyed the company of his dogs. He also loved the the thrill of skydiving.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Shelley and Scott Pfirman, of Catawissa, Robert B. Sr. and Kelly Jones, of Dornsife, and Lindsay Jones, of Irvine, Calif.; eight grandchildren, MaKenzi, Jackson, Ryleigh, and Kaiden Pfirman and Taylor, Brendan, Olivia and Robert B. Jones Jr.; and two sisters, Carol and Barbara Jones, both of Shamokin.

He was preceded in death by one brother, J. Patrick Jones, (father of Dr. Courtney Jones of Hunt Valley Animal Hospital).

A viewing was held at Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin. The funeral was conducted in Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with Father Martin presiding.

Burial was at St. Edward’s Cemetery.
